In March, the International Olympic Committee （IOC） and officials in Japan postponed the Tokyo Olympics until next year due to the pandemic. Japan has closed its border to travelers from 129 countries all over the world for months to contain the virus, and the COVID-19 still shows no sign of abating. International and domestic travel restrictions could be a problem for all participants, let alone the measures to protect the health and safety of athletes, audiences, and staff.
Since the pandemic continues to rage, no one is sure whether the Games will be held as scheduled from July 23 to Aug. 8, 2021. The IOC will not consider a second postponement at the moment. If the Games cannot be held next summer, they will be canceled.
