Bloomberg released its latest COVID-19 resilience ranking on May 25. Owing to a burst of thousands of locally infected confirmed COVID cases, Taiwan dropped out of the top 10 and took 15th place, while New Zealand regained the no. 1 position.
The ranking reviewed a wide range of data to evaluate how well the COVID-19 pandemic is being handled in a country or region with the least disruption to its society and economy. The data includes factors such as mortality, testing and vaccination rate, and freedom to move.
The government raised the epidemic alert to level 3 on May 19 for the first time since COVID-19 broke out in December of 2019. Taiwan, with a population of 23 million people, has received about 726,000 vaccine doses by May 19.
