Eslite bookstore chain has confirmed that its 24-hour branch in Taipei’s Xinyi District will close in December 2023, while there has been speculation that its Songyan store will become the next 24-hour bookstore.
Rumors that Eslite planned to close its Xinyi store surfaced in mid-2022. It later failed to convince its landlord to extend the existing lease and will soon close after the Eslite Dunnan store was closed for a similar reason.
Despite the setback, Eslite will continue to open new stores including outlets in Xindian and Taichung, which are scheduled to open in the second half of 2023.
