新冠病毒重挫中國 兩會首見不設經濟成長目標China Economy Suffers Due to COVID-19

China did not set an economic growth goal for this year as its economy has been severely affected by the coronavirus pandemic. It is the first time China has not had a gross domestic product (GDP) target since 1990 when records began. Premier Li Keqiang made this announcement at the start of the country’s annual parliament meeting.

Premier Li said that the COVID-19 pandemic has thrown the country into uncertainty that has made it difficult to predict its own development, as well as the world economic and trade environment.

China, the world’s second largest economy, said its economy shrank by 6.8% in the first quarter from a year ago as lockdowns paralyzed businesses.

每年的中國兩會期間，國務院總理都會公佈政府工作報告，並會提出該年度的經濟成長目標。不過，由於今年的新冠肺炎疫情，中國首當其衝，經濟受到重挫，以往的「保六」目標，也就是經濟成長率大於6%，今年恐怕難以達成。因此，一如所料，今年的政府工作報告，國務院總理李克強沒有提出年度經濟目標，這是自1994年開始定下目標以來首見。

早在之前中國公佈2020年的第一季GDP，就重挫6.8%，是自1992年開始公布季GDP以來，首度出現負成長。

我們常聽到GDP，是Gross Domestic Profit的縮寫，翻譯是國民生產總值，也就是一個國家生產產品的總價值。Gross是「總額、總量」（形容詞是噁心、討厭的意思，可別搞錯了），Domestic 是「國內」，Profit就是「利益、收入」

至於我們常聽到的第一季、第二季的「季」，英文要用Quarter，也就是4分之1的意思，可別用成season。這個Quarter也是商界常用的Q1、Q2的那個Q的原字喔！
